Prince Harry’s claims about being a “spare” to Prince William continue to prove true.
According to reports, the Prince of Wales is expected to be named godfather to the Duke of Westminster’s newborn daughter, even though the role once might’ve gone to his estranged brother, the Duke of Sussex. According to DailyExpress, William is now the frontrunner for the coveted honour, despite both princes having close ties to Hugh Grosvenor.
Hugh and his wife Olivia welcomed their daughter, Cosima Florence Grosvenor, on Sunday, July 27. While the couple hasn’t publicly announced godparents, royal insiders believe William will get the nod.
The future king previously chose Hugh as godfather to Prince George, and their friendship remains strong; William even served as an usher at the Duke’s high-profile wedding in June.
Harry, on the other hand, didn’t attend the ceremony and hasn’t been seen with Hugh in recent years. Though once close, the current state of their friendship remains unclear.
William hasn’t publicly commented on Cosima’s birth, as he was in Switzerland attending the Women’s Euro Final with his daughter Princess Charlotte. But it’s believed he extended his congratulations privately.
The news follows reports that Harry is willing to share details of his public engagements with both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, per the Daily Mail.
