The obsession with cramming grammatical rules negatively impacts the creative and intellectual development of students. Focusing solely on grammar, without developing essential skills, is akin to memorising traffic rules without ever learning how to drive.
Therefore, if emphasis is to be placed anywhere, it should be on rigorous reading and creative writing. Teachers should reform their reliance on rote-learning-oriented methods and students should be encouraged to read books from diverse genres.
