Rights and duties

The relationship between a country and its citizens is fundamentally a two-way street: citizens pay taxes and expect governmental support and well-being in return. However, this dynamic becomes complicated when governments increase taxes on ordinary people while simultaneously expanding perks for those at the top. Quite often, those who emphasise citizens’ duty to the nation are the very individuals benefiting from state privileges, which are ultimately funded by ordinary taxpayers.

To foster a more transparent and accountable society, we need to clarify the responsibilities of both state institutions and individual citizens. The most vital service to any nation is the upholding of its constitution and laws. Therefore, the core question should be whether every institution in the country adheres to these supreme laws without any exceptions. Focusing on this, alongside ensuring that both citizens and institutions fulfil their respective duties under the law, will lead to greater accountability and a healthier nation-building process.
