I teach science and english in a government high school in the formerly-tribal Khyber district. Apart from school, I have been teaching physics and english to students of class nine and 10 for free during the winter and summer vacations for the past twelve years. However, due to the increasing use of mobile phones, fewer students come for tuition than before. Earlier, the students had a lot of passion and dedication to learn and they had a high ability to remember and understand things quickly. Now, due to mental confusion and lack of interest, there is a lot of incompetence and a tendency to forget lessons among students. Parents should protect their children from smartphones so that their basic cognitive functions, such as focus and memory, stay strong and they remain capable of learning.
