Clean energy setback

Throughout the world, the emphasis is on clean and renewable energy. Meanwhile, in Pakistan, where carbon emissions and climate change are at their peak, individuals who have installed solar panels are being punished financially. Government officials claim that solar energy producers are contributing to the national grids issues, yet they overlook the fact that solar users actually reduce the government’s weighted average electricity cost.

I strongly urge the government not to reverse its stance on the solar net-metering policy. Instead, efforts should be directed toward reducing line losses and other inefficiencies. Discouraging solar energy production will not bode well for Pakistan’s environmental trajectory, especially as the country faces increasing carbon emissions and worsening climate change.
