While the rains offer the people of Rawalpindi relief from the summer heat, they also expose the city’s poor infrastructure. The most pressing concern is the inadequate drainage system, which results in severe waterlogging, traffic congestion and stagnant water that becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue and malaria. The overflowing, accumulation of garbage and unsanitary conditions pose serious health risks, especially for children and the elderly.

The local authorities must improve the drainage infrastructure, ensure timely cleaning of the drains and improve waste management. Immediate action is vital to safeguard public health and ensure the city can withstand the monsoon season.
