PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mashal Yousafzai is actively pursuing a Senate election ticket, sources told Geo News on Friday.
According to the sources, Mashal Yousafzai made a phone call to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali in this regard. “Go ahead and file the papers, we’ll see afterwards,” Barrister Gohar reportedly told her during the call.
The sources said that Mashal Yousafzai claimed family had met former first lady Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail and conveyed a message from her.
They said according to Mashal, PTI founder Imran Khan had directed her to submit her nomination papers for the Senate elections.
It was learnt that Mashal Yousafzai had contacted senior PTI leaders as well, including Atif Khan, in an effort to secure the party’s ticket.
When approached for comment, Mashal Yousafzai declined to speak on the matter.
However, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar stated that the party founder had not directly instructed him to issue a Senate ticket to anyone.
“Mashal Yousafzai did contact me, and I am currently looking into the matter,” he said, adding that a final decision on the ticket allotment would be made later.
Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are scheduled to take place on July 21.
