Duchess Sophie leaves UK after key Buckingham Palace meeting

Duchess Sophie, who has been assigned some key tasks by the Palace, is now embarking on a new mission soon after wrapping the important French State Visit.

Buckingham Palace revealed that the Duchess of Edinburgh will be travelling to Bosnia and Herzegovina to mark the 30th anniversary of Srebrenica. The genocide ended with up to 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys killed or missing.

However, her husband Prince Edward would not be joining her.

The Duchess will be representing King Charles at the poignant event of the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Day on Friday, July 11.

Sophie’s tour will include a visit to Sarajevo’s Old Town, to learn about the impact of the conflict on women. This will be followed by a meeting with the Missing Persons Institute.

The royal, who is famously dubbed as King Charles’s ‘secret weapon for monarchy’, will also have the chance to meet with religious leaders in the area who help to promote peace and reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sophie has shown her long-standing commitment to humanitarian and charity work. Hence, this trip is also a huge step towards international diplomacy in Charles’s reign.

The visit comes after Sophie and Edward attended the exquisite Royal Collection display at Buckingham Palace before the French State Visit luncheon. The meeting was an important interaction in which key working royals participated to celebrate outstanding craftsmanship from France.
