Prince Harry, Meghan Markle come under fire as Sussexes face tax probe

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appear to be next on the chopping block as the couple’s massive wealth comes under scrutiny.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their financial matters have sparked plenty of headlines ever since they exited their senior royal positions in 2020. Soon after their move, they signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix among other lucrative offers.

While the Sussexes have been scrutinised over their luxury living – from their massive Montecito mansion to trips in private jets – their taxes have never been a major topic of discussion.

However, they have come in the line of fire after Kensington Palace confirmed that Prince William pays the highest rate of income tax on his private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, but the amount was not disclosed.

Royal experts believe that if William has to declare his taxes, then the same rule should be applied to Prince Harry and Meghan, especially after the Duke inherited a hefty sum from the late Queen Mother.

“It's an uncomfortable conversation that I think is completely unnecessary,” Broadcaster Esther Okraku said during The Sun’s podcast. “I think if you're going to have those conversations, then you might as well have them about Harry as well, he inherited, what, £10 million from the late Queen Mother.”

Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson noted that it all has been “very secretive” and no one knows the “exact figures”.

“Exactly, but why is no one asking [Harry]?” Esther argued. “I mean, him and his upstart wife arguably haven’t earned that money by any means. You know, why aren't we criticising them? Because it's just distasteful.”

She added, “And I think we should extend the same courtesy to William.”
