Queen Camilla honours royal tradition with centuries-old treasure

Queen Camilla has proven to be a source of strength for King Charles during his reign, especially as he continues to get weekly treatment for his cancer.

The Queen Consort, who had joined the monarch during the recent visit to Scotland, made a significant gesture to support the King’s rule and honour the monarchy.

The royal family is known for sending key messages and making statements with their sartorial choices and accessories, Camilla followed the same path as she pulled out a centuries-old royal treasure, according to jewellery expert Tobias Kormind.

“The much-awaited Royal Week began on Tuesday in Edinburgh with a flurry of events planned, and the annual garden party was anticipated to be the fashion highlight,” the expert said of the Garden Party held in Palace of Holyroodhouse last week.

He told GB News that Camilla made an impeccable choice of jewellery for the event given the significance of the piece.

“We expected Queen Camilla to pay tribute to Scotland through her jewellery choices, and she did,” Kormind said. “She wore Queen Mary’s diamond thistle brooch, as she did in 2024, as a nod to the Scottish floral emblem.”

The historic piece – Diamond Thistle Brooch – the represents centuries of royal connection to Scotland. It originally belonged to Queen Mary before it was inherited by her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

The piece was not seen publicly until the late Queen Elizabeth wore it in 2010 at the Holyroodhouse for a portrait intended for the Scottish Parliament. Elizabeth then made it a point to wear it regularly to show support during her Scottish engagements.

And now, Camilla has upheld the tradition as she also wore the iconic jewellery to last year’s Edinburgh Garden party. She also pulls out the treasure for other important Scottish engagements.
