Prince William to honour Princess Diana’s 64th birthday with special event

Prince William will be honouring his late mother, Princess Diana, with a special event on what would have been her 64th birthday.

The Prince of Wales will be travelling to Sheffield in northern England on Tuesday, July 1, to celebrate the second anniversary of his five-year initiative, Homewards.

The future king had founded the programme, inspired by the advocacy of his late mother, who had instilled the empathy for homeless people in William and Prince Harry.

In a documentary, William revealed that Diana took him and brother Prince Harry as children to visit shelters. The late princess she helped shine a light on the humanity behind homelessness through many charities.

Now, William has furthered her mission as a patron of organisations Diana once supported, including Centrepoint and The Passage.

Ahead of his visit, William penned an emotional letter to the six participating regions — Sheffield, Newport in South Wales, Aberdeen in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and Lambeth in London — applauding the efforts put in by the team and lifting their spirits for the next stage in their project.

“We have the ability to harness our collective capabilities, expertise, and resources towards this common cause. I am immensely proud to say that your collective effort has already allowed us to achieve lasting impact,” William wrote.

“I am confident we can lead and inspire understanding, empathy and optimism that homelessness can be ended.”
