23 die in rain-related incidents in Punjab, KP

LAHORE/PESHAWAR: As many as 23 people died on Sunday in different rain-related incidents in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

In Lahore, three individuals died in two incidents during a thunderstorm.

A woman and a child lost their lives while another man was injured when the roof of a single-storey house collapsed in Ahmed Town, Sharifpura. The house had a mud-and-wood roof that caved in. Rescue teams retrieved the victims from the rubble. The deceased were identified as 25-year-old Uzma, wife of Saleem, and seven-month-old Alina, daughter of Muzzamil. Bodies were shifted to the Services Hospital.

In another incident, a man died and two others, including a woman and a child, were injured when a billboard fell on a motorbike on Sherakot Bund Road, on Sunday.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred during strong winds when a large signboard collapsed onto the passing motorcycle. The deceased was identified as Shahid, 50, son of Irshad. The injured included his 35-year-old wife, Jamila, and a child whose identity is yet to be confirmed. All victims were shifted to the Jinnah Hospital.

Meanwhile, in Peshawar, at least 20 people have lost their lives in recent rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday.

In its damage assessment report, the PDMA said that Swat district was the hardest hit, where 13 fatalities were reported.
