King Charles is set to host US president Donald Trump for a second state visit in September as preparations are already underway for the high-profile event.
Previously, the plan was for Trump to have a semi-private trip at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland but that has been tossed in favour of a full-state visit.
A source told The Times that the “full bells and whistles” treatment will be given to the US President at the Windsor Castle meanwhile, the Palace was not keen on the upgraded plan.
State visits are decided by the UK Government and the monarch’s office merely organises them. The report suggested that Prime Minister Keir Starmer had gone “against the wishes of the King” following the negotiations with the White House.
Although, Palace sources have dismissed the idea that there is tension between the King and the Prime Minister.
Diplomatic tensions emerged especially after Trump made remarks about making Canada its 51st state – just months after the King had sent a personal letter to Trump.
However, while the Palace stressed that the monarch acts on the advice of the Government, Daily Mail’s Rebecca English revealed a strict new condition has been set before the much-anticipated visit.
She cited well-placed sources which claimed that plans for “a private visit have been scrapped”.
A formal invitation ‘Manu Regis’ has been sent to the US by the Buckingham Palace – hand-delivered by the British Embassy in Washington DC to the White House last week.
