Young addicts

Observed annually on June 26, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, brings global attention to a crisis that knows no borders. A significant portion of the drug-addicted population in Pakistan is made up of young people. In my opinion, one of the leading causes of drug abuse among young people in Pakistan is a lack of education and awareness. Other contributing factors include socioeconomic difficulties, peer pressure and the alarming ease of access to drugs in schools, colleges and hostels. Together, these create a dangerous environment where addiction can take root and thrive. This is not just a health crisis but a threat to the nation’s future and one that must be countered immediately.
