Prince Harry faces ‘real’ threats without state security ahead of UK return

Prince Harry is expected to make his UK return after he had lost his security appeal in last month in a ‘devastating’ verdict.

The Duke of Sussex, who founded the Invictus Games in 2014, will be returning for the sporting event for injured and sick veterans in July 2027 held in Birmingham.

Despite, his willingness to have his wife, Meghan Markle, and his two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, return to his home country, the security threats are “real” for the Sussexes, per a royal expert.

In his BBC interview, Harry has said he “couldn’t see a world” in which he would be able to bring Meghan and the children back to UK. Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe suggested that Harry has “nailed his colours to the mast” with his statement.

“Meghan is probably quite reluctant to come to the UK anyway because they’d have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to realise just how much criticism they’ve had for their betrayals and truth bombs,” Larcombe told The Mirror.

“But more importantly, there are real and genuine threats.” He explained that the threats are likely coming from “lunatics and radical protestors” who may want to be noticed for a daring stunt.

Given their royal connection, the threat extends to Sussexes which makes any trip to the UK “incredibly difficult without state-level security”.

Larcombe supported Harry’s initial stance noting that at big royal events the visible security is just “tip of the iceberg”.

“There are a lot of undercover officers and agents working, too,” he explained. “Without the official support and security, Harry and Meghan are left with two or three bodyguards who are pretty blind to what the potential threats are.”
