LAHORE: As directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Directorate of Monitoring Cell has been established in the Home Department.

Special helpline 1124 has been set up for redressal of public complaints. Public can call for guidance or complaint related to jail department, civil defence, highway patrol and security companies. This facility can also be availed for reporting bombs or suspicious objects at any place.

The Punjab Highway Patrol contact system has been established for assistance or guidance during travel on major highways. Passengers can call 1124 for help in case of vehicle breakdown, robbery or any emergency.

Immediate action will be taken regarding overloading and careless driving on public transport. The CM highlighted, “People can call the helpline for medical assistance while traveling on any highway of Punjab.” Inappropriate behaviour of highway patrolling staff would be taken into account, she said.

The chief minister said a complaint could also be filed on 1124 regarding inappropriate behaviour of prison staff, like demanding bribes. Protection of legal rights of prisoners would be ensured, she vowed. Complaints related to security guards or security companies would be resolved immediately, she remarked. Action would be taken against the security company on complaint of a guard receiving less than prescribed wages.

She said complaints would be resolved regarding illegal sale or transfer of LPG gas. Even if there is no emergency exit system in a multi-storey building, or there is a lack of fire extinguishing arrangements at a petrol pump or gas station, information can be reported on the helpline.

The chief minister said the government was committed to protecting lives and property of the people. She warned neglect in redressal of public grievances would not be tolerated. The CM pointed out highway patrol was being reactivated to ensure safe travel on the highways.
