A tragic road accident on Rashid Minhas Road claimed the lives of a woman and a young girl early on Thursday morning when a speeding dumper loaded with gravel and sand overturned and crashed onto a double cabin vehicle.

Another woman and the vehicle’s driver were also injured in the incident. According to police, the accident occurred near the COD area within the jurisdiction of the Sharea Faisal police station.

The dumper lost control, mounted the footpath, and fell onto the passing double-cabin vehicle, crushing the vehicle under the weight of the dumper and its load. Following the accident, police, Rangers and volunteers from welfare organisations reached the scene. The road from the Millennium Mall toward Sharea Faisal was closed, leading to severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.

One woman was rescued in a critical condition and was first taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later shifted to a private hospital on Stadium Road. Cranes and lifters were used to remove the dumper and debris, after which the bodies of a woman and a girl were recovered. The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Shaheena Naeem and seven-year-old Ayesha, daughter of Khurram. The injured woman was identified as 30-year-old Anum. All victims belonged to the same family and were residents of Scheme 33.

During the rescue operation, relatives of the victims clashed with media personnel and bystanders recording videos. One citizen was reportedly beaten and injured. Police confirmed that the dumper driver fled the scene.
