Diamer-Bhasha Dam security top priority, GB apex committee told

CM stresses need for expediting public welfare projects to reinforce regional stability and economic progress

GILGIT: The security of strategically important Diamer-Bhasha Dam topped the agenda as the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Apex Committee met here on Tuesday with Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan in the chair.

The meeting was attended by senior civil and military officials.

According to an official statement, Force Commander FCNA Major General Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gillani told the committee that robust security measures were in place to safeguard the dam site and ensure uninterrupted progress on the project.

He reaffirmed the security forces’ commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the region, adding that public cooperation was vital to long-term peace-building efforts.

The committee paid a glowing tribute to the armed forces for the success of Operation Bunyanul Marsoos and lauded the bold and visionary leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The session featured extensive discussions on the region’s overall security situation, law and order, energy challenges, and ongoing development schemes.

Special attention was given to the safety of major communication arteries, particularly the Karakoram Highway and Jaglot–Skardu Road.

Promotion of tourism and reforms in the education sector were also taken up.

The chief minister directed all the departments and institutions to work in close coordination for maintenance of peace during the upcoming month of Muharram.
