The federal government, under IMF pressure, appears to have curtailed increases in pensionary benefits for retired federal government employees, making their post-retirement life uncertain and insecure. Amidst this pension suppression, the taxes on the salaried class are also being raised, ensuring that they have less saved when they retire. While the PML-N-led government claims that austerity and higher taxes are necessary for economic stability, it continues to confer perks and privileges on lawmakers and other state officials. The government is requested to take some employee-friendly measures in the coming budget so that their financial burden is reduced.
