BELGRADE: Thousands of Serbians including students gathered in over 30 cities on Sunday in the latest protest aimed at pressuring President Aleksandar Vucic to call early elections.
The Balkan nation has been rocked by student-led protests since 16 people were killed last November when the roof of a train station collapsed in Novi Sad, a disaster widely blamed on deep-rooted corruption.
“We want elections,” students chanted in Belgrade as they marched to block two major bridges in the capital Belgrade. “Over 30 cities in Serbia stopped today to send a message to the government that this can´t go on,” said Nikola, a music student.
