According to a recent media report, the Punjab government has decided to issue computerised birth and death certificates to its citizens free of charge. At the federal level, however, the authorities continue charging for such certificates even though they can follow the example set by the Punjab government. The issuance of birth and death certificates should be made free of charge with immediate effect on the federal level too.
