Pakistan’s national rowing team achieved a groundbreaking feat at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship in Pattaya, Thailand, clinching a total of 14 medals and earning a third-place finish in the overall standings from May 26 to 31.
The team’s haul included 10 gold medals—its highest ever in the competition—along with 3 silver and 1 bronze. Competing against more than 20 nations, Pakistan outperformed several traditional rowing giants, with dominant displays across various divisions.
Asad Ali emerged as the star performer with five golds, supported by Maqbool Ali and Wali Khan with two each. Abdul Jabbar and Muhammad Shahzad both added a gold and a silver, while Tayyab Iftikhar secured one silver and a bronze.
This historic performance highlights the country’s growing prominence in indoor rowing. Pakistan placed behind only Thailand and India on the medal table, affirming its growing presence in Asian rowing circles.
The championship, held in the sports-centric city of Pattaya, drew praise for its high-level competition and organisation. Pakistan’s rowers were lauded for their discipline, talent, and potential to excel at future international events.
