Arshad, Yasir qualify for final round

ISLAMABAD: Arshad Nadeem dominated the qualifying round of the javelin throw event in the Asian Athletics Championship Friday at Gumi Stadium in Korea.

The Olympic record-holder threw the javelin to a distance of 86.34 meters to take pole position. He was followed by Sri Lankan Rumesh Tharanga with the throw of 83.71 meters. Indian Neeraj Chopra failed to turn up for the Asian Championship. Two other Indians and Pakistan’s Mohammad Yasir also qualified for the final round to be held today (Saturday) afternoon. Yasir threw the javelin to 76.07 meters for ninth position. A total of 12 athletes qualified for the final round to be held on Saturday.
