Meghan Markle may have her grievances from her time in the royal family, but the Duchess of Sussex took a special piece of UK with her just before she moved to the US.
Prince Harry and Meghan have been in an ongoing feud with the royals since their departure from the firm in 2020. While the couple have made no secret of their unhappiness during their time, Meghan seemingly sent a message of love after the years-long rift.
In one key moment from her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, she expressed her feelings about her time in UK with a pointed gesture.
The Duchess wore a ‘Love Pendant’ by London jewellery designer Sophie Lis which has a special meaning behind it.
Meghan first debuted the piece in 2020. The diamond- and ruby-studded necklace is inspired by The Eternal Song written by French poet Rosemonde Gérard. The engraving states: “+ qu’hier” and “- que demain” which means “I love you more today than yesterday but less than tomorrow.”
The designer revealed to Page Six Style that accessory is “particularly special” as 10% from each sale was donated to a dog charity called Wild at Heart, based in Notting Hill. Lis said that it symbolised “ever growing love”.
Lis shared, “Meghan was a fan of us right from the beginning. She became aware of our brand just before she moved to the US, but there was no gifting — she definitely bought her pieces.”
The pendant is not the only piece of accessory she owns from the brand. Meghan also wore the designer’s 'Fallen Star Hoop Earrings' for her final day as a working royal in March 2020. Lis explained that the North Star-shaped earrings symbolise “protection from evil,”
“She’s always been a great supporter and I’m very grateful for her raising awareness of the brand, especially as the storytelling behind each piece is meaningful,” the designer stated. “Those Fallen Star Earrings are meant to offer guidance and direction; it’s such a nice thought to follow the star.”
As tensions between the families have gotten worse, especially after Prince Harry lost his security appeal in UK, Meghan is making efforts to be supportive to her husband while also showing her willingness for a truce.
Ever since her return to social media, Meghan has not shied away from reminiscing good memories from her time in the UK in subtle comments. Meghan has even made it a point to mark some special holidays only celebrated across the pond.
Just like members of the royal family use sartorial choices and accessories to make a statement, it appears Meghan is also taking the same approach and making a statement of her own.
