Amid the rising political tensions between the US and Canada, King Charles vowed to protect the sovereignty of Canadians in his powerful speech but it seemed like Donald Trump paid no heed to his important message.
Once again, Trump expressed his wish to make Canada the 51st State of the US, seemingly a swipe at the monarch's power show.
On Truth Social, the influential political figure wrote, "I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!."
It is important to note that King Charlesofficially opened Canada’s 45th Parliament as Head of State on May 27.
He delivered a keynote speech, stating "we witness Canadians coming together in a renewed sense of national pride, unity, and hope."
Speaking about the growing crisis in Canada, Charles said, "Today, [the country] faces another critical moment. Democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, self-determination, and freedom are values which Canadians hold dear, and ones which the Government is determined to protect."
The monarch emphasised that the government will "discharge its duty to protect Canadians and their sovereign rights, from wherever challenges may come at home or abroad."
King Charles' visit to Canada was historically significant as he attended the State Opening of the Parliament of Canada, becoming the first monarch to do so in almost 70 years.
Not only that, he showed the world his support for Canadians especially during political crisis.
