LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Monday launched the “CM insulin for diabetes” programme, a first-of-its-kind initiative for young children suffering from congenital type-I diabetes.

As part of the launch, she personally delivered ‘CM Insulin Cards’ to children at their homes, accompanied by Pakistan Post riders. She visited the residence of Wasay Adnan, a five-year-old from Sabzazar Q-Block, and also met Zainab Waheed and Zain Shahzad in Jamil Town. Along with the insulin cards, she handed over insulin kits, glucometers, BSR strips, and needle boxes to the children.

She interacted warmly with children, and promised to send a toy car to young Wasay. She also ordered for immediate arrangements for Zain Shahzad’s eye check-up and treatment.

The CM’s arrival in these localities was met with a warm reception — residents gathered on rooftops and streets, girls showered flower petals, and elderly women offered prayers for her well-being. She also took selfies with young girls on request, engaging with families in a deeply personal manner.

Speaking to families, Maryam said, “I understand the anxiety of parents whose children suffer from diabetes. This free insulin programme was launched in response to the urgent needs of underprivileged families. Under our Sehatmand Punjab vision, no child will be left behind due to unaffordable medical care.”

She stressed the importance of children’s health as a government priority: “For the first time, glucometers and test strips are being provided along with insulin to children. The alarming rise in diabetes among children is a national concern, and we are determined to act decisively.”

According to a detailed briefing, in the first phase, 1,500 children will receive insulin at their doorsteps through a secure delivery system managed by Pakistan Post. Post riders will verify insulin cards via a dedicated mobile app, ensuring secure and timely delivery.

Each delivery will provide a three-month supply of insulin, with patients required to attend quarterly check-ups at their nearest district or sub-district hospital.

Registration for the programme is available at: NCD Clinics, Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics and Healthline app (1033). The programme operates under a Cold Chain System to maintain insulin quality during delivery. By combining digital verification with doorstep service, the initiative represents a major leap forward in equitable, child-focused healthcare in Punjab.

Meanwhile, a PMLN delegation from PP-52 constituency called on Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Monday.

According to a TV channel report, the PML-N delegation was headed by Hina Arshad Warraich. On the occasion fateha was also offered for the late Javed Arshad Warraich. Nawaz Sharif paid tributes to the late Warraich. Maryam Nawaz also lauded services of Hina Javed Warraich.
