Dumper trucks, while essential to Karachi’s construction and development needs, have become symbols of danger. We’ve all seen or heard of horrifying accidents involving these trucks. These are mostly avoidable tragedies caused by reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and weak enforcement. While the Sindh government has set specific regulations, such as banning dumper trucks from entering the city during peak hours, implementation remains inconsistent.
Many drivers operate without training, vehicles often lack fitness certification and traffic police struggle to keep up due to resource constraints or lack of coordination. I urge the authorities to strictly enforce existing rules, introduce mandatory safety training for drivers and ensure that only roadworthy vehicles are allowed to operate.
