Pakistani mangoes, known worldwide for their taste and quality, are facing a severe decline in production. The country, which normally produces around 1.8 million tonnes of mangoes annually, is now witnessing a dramatic drop in output due to climate change. Experts report that unpredictable weather patterns, a severe lack of water and extreme heatwaves have badly disrupted the mango orchards.
Plant pathologists warn that the size of the fruit is also being affected. As a result, farmers and agricultural workers are suffering significant losses. We must promote climate-resilient mango varieties. Without timely intervention, Pakistan’s mango industry could face long-term damage.
