Salman Khan's 'Sultan' allegedly derailed John Abraham's 'The Great Gama' project

Salman Khan's Sultan was the reason John Abraham's The Great Gama never made ittothescreen, biopic writer Parmeet Sethi revealed.

Sethi, who has been actively working in television and film since 2010, spoke about his journey writing a biopic on Indian wrestler Ghulam Muhammad Baksh Butt, popularly known as The Great Gama.

According to SCREEN, the 58-year-old actor approached Aditya Chopra after completing the script.

However, the Yash Raj Films chairperson declined the offer, as he was already developing a similar project starring Salman Khan.

The Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge actor then took his script to John Abraham, who came on board as both producer and actor.

Meanwhile, the Kick actor announced his film Sultan, which was based on a similar theme to The Great Gama.

Reflecting on the disappointment after Sultan’s release, the Dastaan star – who is also the husband of Archana Puran Singh – said, “It broke my heart”.

Following the setback, Sethi stepped away from writing and returned to acting.

Sethi, 53, also discussed resuming his acting career after a long gap, saying, “You have to do something to keep the kitchen running.”

For the unversed, Sultan, starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma, was released on July 6, 2016.
