FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and leading trade and industrial organizations have rejected the recently issued Tax Laws (Amendment) Ordinance 2025, vowing to begin consultations with senior government officials to demand its immediate withdrawal.
Speaking at a joint meeting of various trade bodies here on Tuesday, FCCI President Rehan Naseem Bharara expressed concern over the negative impact of the ordinance on the already fragile economy. He said every time economic indicators started showing signs of improvement, decisions like this reversed the momentum. He criticized the government for introducing a one-sided ordinance while simultaneously promoting digitalization and a faceless tax system to minimize direct contact between taxpayers and the FBR. Bharara called for the formation of a consultative committee comprising government representatives and chambers of commerce to review the ordinance and propose business-friendly reforms.
Business leaders also addressed the gathering and pledged to continue their struggle against the ordinance through a united front through the FCCI platform.
