The World Meteorological Organisation has confirmed that the past decade has been the warmest on record and the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2025 identifies environmental risks as half of the top 10 global concerns. This includes extreme weather events, biodiversity loss and large-scale Earth system changes.
The emission of greenhouse gases and the consequent global warming are the main drivers of these risks. The transition towards green energy is a welcome development but much more needs to be done to phase out fossil fuels
