The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) State Bank Circle Karachi on Thursday arrested three accused involved in foreign currency, fake medicines and smuggling.
A spokesperson for the Sindh FIA said the FIA State Bank Circle Karachi carried out operations in the parking area of Jinnah International Airport where they arrested three suspects identified as Muhammad Suleman, Muhammad Hussain and Sheikh Muhammad Rafiq.
According to the spokesperson, Suleman had arrived in Pakistan from Thailand and audio and text messages related to illegal foreign currency exchange were recovered from his mobile phone. Local and foreign currency worth millions of rupees was seized from him possession during the raid. The currency included
100,000 Chinese yuan, 35,540 Thai baht and 77,000 Pakistani rupees along with euros, Sri Lankan rupees, Malaysian ringgits, Singapore dollars and Hong Kong dollars.
In another operation, non-custom-paid items were seized from Hussain who arrived in Pakistan from Dubai. The seized items included five non-custom-paid laptops, Samsung mobile phones and three bottles of liquor. In another operation, Rafiq was arrested with a large quantity of unregistered medicines and steroids imported from abroad.
