India has once again chosen hate over humanity. A disabled teenager from Karachi, who had travelled to Delhi for medical treatment, was forced to return home without receiving full treatment, while his mother and aunt were detained in Delhi.
Ayan, 16, a Rizvia resident, was disabled in a police shooting incident in 2023. He travelled to India with his parents on March 24 for medical treatment. After crossing the Attari border on March 27, he was admitted to a Delhi hospital, where neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar conducted his initial examination.
However, according to Ayan’s father Muhammad Imran, the Indian authorities abruptly announced the closure of borders soon after, and Ayan was instructed to leave India immediately without completing his treatment.
Ayan, accompanied by his father, brothers, uncle and cousins, crossed the Wagah border into Lahore, then travelled by train to Karachi. His mother and aunt, however, were prevented from returning, and have been detained in Delhi.
When the children reached the Cantt Station in Karachi without their mothers, they broke down in tears. Speaking to the media, Imran said his children are crying for their mother.
“We spent millions of rupees for our disabled son’s treatment and went to India, but after only a preliminary check-up we were forcibly expelled following the Pahalgam incident, and my wife and sister-in-law were forcibly held back in India.”
It was revealed that Ayan’s mother is an Indian citizen who had come to Pakistan 16 years ago after her marriage, and had been living in Karachi on a visa. Due to her Indian passport, she was not allowed to leave India.
The family has urged the Government of Pakistan to immediately take diplomatic action to resolve this humanitarian issue and reunite the mothers with their children.
Meanwhile, the public in Pakistan has expressed their outrage over India’s inhumane action, saying that India has crossed all limits of humanity by obstructing the treatment of a disabled boy and, adding insult to injury, detaining his mother.
Ayan, a grade VIII student, had been shot by plain-clothes policemen belonging to a motorbike squad near the Golimar underpass in the Rizvia police station’s jurisdiction on May 30 last year.
His friend Owais had been with him at the time of the incident. They were going towards Golimar Chowrangi from the Lalukhet area on their motorbikes when one of the suspects, who later turned out to be policemen in plain clothes, present near the underpass caught his hand on a moving motorbike and caused the vehicle to slip. Upon seeing this Ayan got scared and turned his motorbike, but one of the suspects shot him from behind, damaging his lungs after penetrating the backbone.
