Five killed in Mansehra jeep plunge

MANSEHRA: Five people, including four women, were killed and eight others sustained critical injuries when a passenger jeep plunged into a deep ravine in the Jabori area of the Siren Valley here on Monday.

“We have shifted all seven injured to a nearby health facility after retrieving them from the gorge with the help of locals,” Qazi Majid Naseem, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Shinkiari, told reporters. The four-wheeler, carrying passengers, was on its way to Jabori, the main town of the Siren Valley, from Sundi.

The driver, while negotiating a sharp turn on a bumpy road, lost control of the steering. The vehicle skidded off the artery and plunged into a deep ravine. Personnel from the police, Rescue 1122, and locals retrieved the injured from the gorge and shifted them to the Rural Health Centre Shinkiari. Doctors pronounced five people, including four women, dead. The doctors confirmed the deaths of Khanam Jan, a young girl, Safila Bibi, Hazifa Bibi, Zatoon Bibi, and Waseem Anwar.

The injured included Mohammad Rafaqat, Mohammad Jan, Mohammad Javed, Fida Hussain, Mawa Jan, Akbar Jan, Halima Bibi, and driver Mohammad Anwar. They were referred to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra. The DSP said drivers should avoid rash driving and exercise caution while negotiating turns on mountainous and bumpy roads.
