ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National assembly and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Omar Ayub Khan Thursday said that national harmony is the most important need of the hour, as India has declared war by violating the Indus Waters Treaty.
“The way India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, it wants to destroy our water economy. India is recalling its military attaché and diplomat and this is what happens in wars,” he said in a message on his social media account and talking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court here.
“Every moment that passes after India suspending the Indus Waters Treaty is a ticking time bomb for Pakistan. It is for all intents and purposes India’s declaration of war on Pakistan,” he said.
He continued that “we have to understand at this time what the country is currently standing on. My statements are based on facts. National harmony is the most important need of the hour and Asif Zardari and Sheahbaz Sharif cannot bring the nation together”.
“The installed regime’s statements until now have been cowardly, weak, jelly kneed and pleading. No direction. Pakistan’s territorial integrity is being threatened,” he charged.
He emphasised that Pakistan’s economy is in a shambles thanks to General Bajwa’s selfish move of orchestrating the vote of no-confidence against former prime minister Imran Khan.
The federal governments led by Shehbaz Sharif and Co, he alleged, have hamstrung Pakistan and that our national cohesion has frayed with an extremely serious situation in all four provinces including AJ&K and GB.
He claimed that the most popular leader, Imran Khan, is locked up in jail as a political prisoner and PTI being persecuted. “Our credible defence is under stress because of the stagnant and dead economy.
“Shehbaz Sharif exported artillery shells worth $850 million to Ukraine in 2023 and now we might just need them,” he claimed.
Omar Ayub contended that “there is a shortage of artillery shells. Petrol smuggling from Iran through Balochistan worth Rs550 billion per year has resulted in our refineries to curtail their refining due to less demand for expensive petrol and diesel (thanks to a PDL of Rs80 per litre) resulting in the inability to refine JP 6 and JP 8 (jet fuels used in aircraft)”?.
“We are running short of spare parts for our military equipment. Our strategic fuel reserves are under pressure. The situation is extremely serious and the installed government is simply non-existent and floundering like a deer caught in a car’s headlights. Usually the deer is run over by the car,” he said.
He said that at this time if there is anyone in the country who can bring national harmony and unite the nation, that person’s name is Imran Khan. He claimed the entire nation believes in him.
“We have to unite the entire nation. We have to consult with Imran Khan and talking to him is the need of the hour.”
Omar Ayub said claimed that these the rulers would go to the jail to talk to Imran Khan. He said that they have been present in the IHC since morning and now it was evening. “We are following the files ourselves, buildings do not provide justice but the justice system.”
“We expect that tomorrow the chief justice will form a larger bench and give us justice and implement his decisions and enable us to meet our founding chairman. We appeared today [Thursday] too, we put our plea before him. We requested that we go to Adiala with the decision of the bench and a Lance Naik and an ASI put the decision on the tip of their shoe,” he charged.
