Girl electrocuted

TOBA TEK SINGH: A six-year-old girl was electrocuted at Chak 477/JB on Thursday. Kiran, daughter of Jamil, was playing in the street outside her house when she touched to an electric pole and suffered a fatal electric shock.

Shopkeeper burnt for demanding money

TOBA TEK SINGH: Three boys burnt a shopkeeper over a minor issue at Farooqia Chowk on Thursday. Shehnaz Bibi reported to police that M Zain and his two unidentified friends came to the shop of her son M Ahmad and purchased petrol in a bottle. When Ahmad demanded money, the accused boys escaped. He followed and attempted to snatch the bottle from them but they allegedly sprinkled petrol on him and set him on fire. As a result, he received serious burns. Rescue 1122 staffers shifted the victim to the DHQ Hospital but the doctors referred him to the Faisalabad Allied Hospital. Police are investigating.

PML-Q leader protests power cuts in KP

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Intikhab Chamkani announced support to the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak announcement to lock Pesco offices after Eidul Fitr. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was generating cheap hydel electricity, which was being sold to the people at much higher rate. The PML-Q president observed that 20 hours-long loadshedding had affected the lives of people in Ramazan. He said the PML-Q would come out on road in support of the chief minister, who has taken bold step against Pesco. He also asked the government to expel chief executive of Pesco from KP.

Foolproof security plan devised for Nowshera

NOWSHERA: The police on Thursday devised a fool-proof security plan for the last 10 days of Ramazan and Eidul Fitr.Addressing a meeting at the Nowshera police lines, District Police Officer Wahid Mehmood ordered deployment of cops-armed to teeth with latest weapons-at the main entry and exit points of the district. He also ordered to cancel the leaves of the policemen.He also directed the police officials to increase foot patrol in the city as well as ordered the installation and round the clock monitoring of the CCTV cameras on sensitive places. Among others SDPO Cantonment Circle, Rasheed Iqbal, Inspector Saif Ali Khan, and Traffic In-charge Inspector Naseem Khan were present at the meeting.

Three shot dead in Swat

MINGORA: Three persons were killed and two others sustained injuries in two separate incidents in Swat district on Thursday, official sources said. They said that two groups headed by Said Mehmood Jan and Naeemullah traded fire over a petty dispute in Kohistan Gat. As a result, Said Mehmood Jan and Naeemullah were killed instantly while two others sustained injuries. The injured including Anwar Jan and Hidayatullah were shifted to the Saidu Sharif Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable. The police arrested Niamat Khan, Azizur Rehman and Irfanullah and started investigation after registering the case. Meanwhile, one Said Ali was on his way home in Miandam area when gunmen fired at him, killing him on the spot. Motive behind the incident was stated to be an old enmity. The accused managed to flee the scene. Police officials said they had arrested Wasim Sajjad, Hazarat Ali, Muhammad Zaman, Jehangir and Ihsanullah.

Alleged killer of educationist held

PESHAWAR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday arrested a suspect in the murder case of an educationist, who was killed by unidentified persons two months ago. A CTD communiqué said Zahid, alias Hamam, the alleged killer of the principal of ICMS Hayatabad, Abid Raza, had been arrested. Abid Raza was killed by unknown persons when he was returning home from the college near Afridi Market Phase-4 in Hayatabad. The CTD claimed that after registration of first information report, it had started investigation on scientific methods to reach the culprits. It said that the CTD find out one culprit through investigation on modern techniques and arrested one Zahid alias Hamam, who is a resident of Barkandai in Peshawar. The CTD also got two days physical remand of the suspect from anti-terrorism court for further interrogation.

76 Afghans deported

LANDIKOTAL: Authorities have deported 76 Afghan nationals illegally residing in various areas of Peshawar and other cities of Pakistan, official said on Thursday. The sources said that Peshawar district government handed over the 76 Afghan citizens who had been arrested during clearance operations in various cities of Pakistan. They were brought to Torkham border in passenger coaches where they were handed over to Afghan border authorities. Pakistan has recently imposed restrictions over the Afghan nationals coming to Pakistan without proper travel documents.

Cop killed in DI Khan accident

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A cop was killed when a vehicle struck his motorcycle in Yarak area on Thursday, official sources said. They said that a policeman identified as Mir Sham, 50, was on his way to carry out his duty in the limits of the Yarak Police Station when a truck hit his motorbike on Dera-Bannu road near Sidra Mor. As a result, he was killed on the spot.

Widow shot dead in Matta Tehsil

MINGORA: Unidentified gunmen killed a widow in Kamalay Chaparial area in Matta Tehsil of Swat district, police sources said on Thursday. One Hazrat Shah told the police that gunmen barged into his house late Wednesday night and opened fire at his widowed sister-in-law, killing her on the spot. Police registered a case against unknown gunmen and started investigation.

Five die in clashes

SUKKUR: Five people were killed in separate clashes on Thursday. Police said that a group allegedly belonging to the Shar tribe opened fire on its rival group in village Abdul Rehman Shar in Shikarpur, killing Shadi Khan, Allah Jurio, Hafeezullah Shar and Mubarak Jakhro. Police said the clash occurred over a land dispute. Relatives of the people killed staged a protest demonstration on the Indus Highway, suspending the flow of vehicular traffic for three hours. Meanwhile, a clash between two groups of Shar clan in Ghotki claimed one more life.

Motorcyclist killed in accident

PAKPATTAN: A motorcyclist was killed in a collision between two motorcycles near Qaboola Town on Thursday.Reportedly, in a collision of motorcycles Hafeez, 45, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to THQ, Arifwala, where he died. The other motorcyclist also suffered injuries.

Addict kills daughter,
injures wife in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: An addict killed his daughter and wife for not giving money to purchase drugs here on Thursday. Tariq, a resident of Garjakh, was an addict. He was also jobless. On the day of the incident, he demanded money from his wife Afshan for purchasing heroin but she refused. It infuriated him and he allegedly attacked Afshan with a knife and injured her. When his daughter Ruqayyia came to rescue Afshan, the accused also injured her. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital where Ruqayyia died. Police have arrested the accused and started investigation.

Villagers allege embezzlement
in school construction

MANSEHRA: Residents of Gagool Guber area in Kohistan have moved Anti-Corruption Establishment to launch an inquiry into construction of a primary school in the area.

“We are thankful to the provincial government, which sanctioned funds for construction works in our village on our demands but contractor, hands in glove with some black sheep in education department, changed site of school from a populated area to a dangerous mountainous area to embezzle funds,” an area resident Noor Wali told reporters here on Thursday. Wali said that the provincial government had sanctioned funds for construction of a primary school in their village situated in Goshali union council in Dasu tehsil but it was not being constructed at the sanctioned place in their village.

Terrorist produced in ATC

PESHAWAR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday produced the militant belonging to a banned militant organisation in the anti-terrorism court who was arrested for sending three would-be suicide bombers to the provincial metropolis for attack.

The would-be suicide bombers were killed before reaching the target after the vest of one of went off accidently. The CTD, in its official communiqué, claimed that the officials through scientific methods and using the modern techniques arrested the ring leader of the three suicide bombers.

The CTD said that it has arrested Fazlur Rehman, alias Sheena, son of Azeem Khan, resident of Ekka Ghund, Mohmand Agency from Mathra area of the city. It produced the alleged terrorist in the anti-terrorism court, wherein he confessed to have committed the crime and recorded his statement in the court.

PESHAWAR: KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has appointed Professor Dr Naushad Khan as the pro-vice chancellor of the Islamia College University for a period of two years.

Dr Naushad Khan would take charge as acting vice-chancellor of the university on Mondayon the retirement of Ajmal Khan, who had resumed charge as vice-chancellor after his release from the custody of his kidnappers .
