Man awarded death in Jaranwala blasphemy case

The court has acquitted the other two accused by giving them the benefit of doubt

JARANWALA: Anti-Terrorism Court Faisalabad Judge Javed Iqbal Sheikh, while announcing a verdict in the Jaranwala blasphemy case on Friday, awarded death and fine to a Christian man.

In 2023, on the charge of desecration of the holy Qur’an at Christian Basti, FIR 1258/23 had been registered against three accused under Section 295 C of the PPC and Section 9 of the Anti-terrorism Act.

As many as 19 churches and houses of the Christian community had been burnt after the incident. One accused has been sentenced to death with a fine of Rs20,00,000.

The court has acquitted the other two accused by giving them the benefit of doubt.
