LAHORE: The trials for Punjab’s teams participating in the 35th National Games are in their final stages, with boxing trials scheduled to take place at the Contact Body Center in Nishtar Park Sports Complex on April 12. These trials, conducted under the supervision of the Sports Board Punjab, aim to select the best athletes for the prestigious event set to take place in Karachi from May 1 to 9.

On Friday, the selection committees oversaw trials in hockey, table tennis, wushu, shooting, and swimming at various venues within the Nishtar Park Sports Complex. Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry visited the venues to inspect the trials and evaluate the performance of the selection committees.

The trials have witnessed enthusiastic participation from athletes across Punjab, with thousands of male and female players competing for a spot in the province’s contingent. Notably, over 600 athletes participated in athletics trials alone. “The participation of such a large number of athletes is a welcome sign,” remarked Chaudhry.

Chaudhry emphasized that the trials are merit-based, ensuring that only the best athletes are selected to represent Punjab. “I am confident that Punjab’s athletes will deliver strong performances and bring home medals in the National Games,” he added.

The final day of trials on April 12 will focus on boxing at the Contact Body Center, where athletes will compete across various weight categories for a spot in the team. “With the trials nearing completion, Punjab’s contingent is set to feature some of the finest talent the province has to offer, raising expectations for a standout performance at the 35th National Games,” said Khizer.
