Gwadar was once part of Oman. Pakistan took over Gwadar in 1958 by paying off $3 million. In 2009, the government of Pakistan made Gwadar Port fully operational.

The port has the potential to cover half of the waterway trade through the world because of its exceptional location connecting the oil Gulf with the West by cutting the distance to half, which makes it a very beneficial option for all oil trading countries.
