MIRPURKHAS: Amid a series of protests and rallies by farmers against acute water shortages in the tail end areas of canals, Director Nara Canal, Ghulam Mustafa Ujjan submitted his resignation on Monday.
While talking to The News, Ujjan confirmed that he accepted the responsibility of water shortages. ‘The decision was made on moral ground, especially when growers of my own area take out rallies against me,” he said. It is noteworthy that small growers of tail-end areas of canals had been taking out protest rallies for over one week against the severe water shortages.
A protest camp was also established in front of irrigation offices for the last several days. Meanwhile, the Sindh government has appointed Saeed Ahmad Jagirani as Director Nara Canal and has taken over the charge of his new posting.
