Pakistan's hosting of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy marks a significant milestone in its cricket history, following years of isolation due to security concerns. The 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore led to a decade long absence of international teams, with only Zimbabwe breaking the deadlock in 2015, followed by Sri Lanka in 2017. Gradually, international teams resumed visits, although security concerns still lingered, as seen when New Zealand and England withdrew from tours in 2021.

Pakistan's bid to host major ICC events between 2024 and 2031 was rewarded in 2021 when it was allocated the Champions Trophy, signifying global recognition of its improved security and organisational capabilities. The tournament has achieved broader importance beyond cricket as Pakistan deals with economic problems, political uncertainties, and security threats. Pakistan showcased its strength by successfully hosting the Champions Trophy despite facing these difficulties.
