The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always maintained excellent working relations with the journalist community and will provide more plots to working journalists.
Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon said this on Friday while speaking at an Iftar dinner at the Karachi Press Club. He lamented that some media houses were not paying their workers' salaries despite receiving advertisement funds worth millions of rupees. He assured the journalists that the government would ensure that such media workers received their due salaries.
He reaffirmed his commitment to standing by journalists in difficult times and always fighting for their rights. Memon mentioned that he remained in contact with journalist organisations like the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Karachi Union of Journalists and parliamentary reporters. He warned that if any institution failed to pay its employees, its business operations could be halted.
Speaking about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, he said he prayed that the PTI founder get out of jail and be granted wisdom so that he did not conspire against Pakistan. Regarding canals, the Sindh information minister clarified that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was opposed to additional canals on the Indus River.
He said Sindh had taken the same position in the Indus River System Authority and the chief minister had also written a letter to convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests to discuss the issue.
Memon announced that the operational hours of the Peoples Bus Service would be extended after the 15th of Ramazan, allowing the buses to run late into the night. He emphasised the need for media accountability, urging media outlets to avoid spreading false news and stating that the free and responsible media strengthened democracy. He also stated that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan was part of the federal government and had the right to receive ministerial positions.
