No fluke

Pakistan’s total failure in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy was not a fluke but a result of deep-rooted issues. It was a wake-up call for its cricketing system. Without serious reforms, even future ICC events will remain out of reach. The PCB must act decisively to rebuild Pakistan cricket. Pakistan’s domestic cricket is one of the areas that needs immediate attention. It is inconsistent and lacks a proper feeder system. Pakistan needs a stable and competitive domestic setup to develop talent. Build cricket academies in small towns, and underprivileged areas to tap into raw talent. Revive the old cricket model alongside departmental cricket to offer players financial stability.

Pakistan cricket still holds the potential to bounce back due to our immense talent pool. Cricket still enjoys widespread popularity, huge financial backing, TV viewership, and grassroots participation, unlike hockey and squash, where grassroot structures have almost disappeared. Cricket remains a national obsession, with millions following the game. However, without a serious overhaul, the fear of following in the footsteps of hockey and squash might turn into reality.
