This letter refers to the news report ‘White House says Musk has no decision-making authority at DOGE’ (February 19, 2025). The White House further clarified that since Elon Musk is not an employee of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and that he has no decision-making authority within the government.
Still, the gentleman seems to have a lot of potential for mess-making and rabble-rousing, without, perhaps, actually meaning to do so. But he also has a substantial capacity to do some very useful work. I think it is all about striking the right balance between creating a stir and doing important work. It seems that, right now, the US is getting far too much of the former.
