LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) discussions with Saqlain Mushtaq regarding a potential coaching role have stalled due to disagreements over certain terms and conditions.

As a result, former fast bowler Aaqib Javed has emerged as the leading candidate for the coaching position ahead of the upcoming New Zealand series. According to PCB sources, negotiations with Saqlain Mushtaq failed to reach a conclusive agreement, prompting the board to explore alternative options. Aaqib Javed, who has coaching experience at both domestic and franchise levels, is now expected to take charge of the national team for the New Zealand series. Meanwhile, former Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz has strongly criticised the PCB over reports linking Saqlain Mushtaq with the coaching role. In a message from London directed at PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Sarfraz Nawaz expressed his disapproval, recalling Saqlain’s previous tenure as Pakistan’s head coach.
