This week, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that charged parking has been abolished in Karachi. He further said that any charged parking space, if found, would be considered illegal henceforth. This is welcome news. However, if charged parking space will be considered illegal, why was it legal earlier? Who made parking space chargeable and for what? People have been drawing the attention of the Sindh government to the presence of the parking mafia for a long time. Why did it not pay attention for all these years?
The people of Karachi would love to see the senior minister and his team visiting different areas of the city with the police particularly in Saddar, Tariq Road and other busy areas and arresting members of the parking mafias. This issue can only be resolved by taking the city’s parking mafia to task.
