A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and another policeman were injured when a specialised police unit, Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), which was conducting an investigation into a kidnapping for ransom case, raided a bungalow in the Gizri area on Saturday.
The raid resulted in a standoff between the suspects inside the bungalow and police outside, which lasted for hours. However, at the end, police successfully arrested one suspect.
South DIG Asad Raza informed The News that the AVCC went to the Bungalow No E/39, Street 7, Khayaban-e-Momin, in connection with the investigation of a kidnapping for ransom case whose FIR No 12/25 was registered under the sections 365A and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
During the operation, an exchange of fire took place, during which DSP Ahsan Zulfiqar and another cop were injured. Following this, the South police arrived at the scene, cordoned off the bungalow and arrested a suspect, named Armaghan.
According to DIG Raza, an FIR regarding the incident was to be registered in the late night hours. The injured policemen were rushed to a hospital where they were provided urgent medical treatment. According to doctors, both the officers were in a stable condition.
According to reports, the raid was jointly carried out by the AVCC and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee in connection with the investigations into the kidnapping of Mustafa Amir, who was abducted within the limits of the Darakhshan police station on January 6.
The raid targeted a bungalow in the Gizri area, but as soon as AVCC officers arrived, the suspects opened fire, injuring DSP Zulfiqar and another officer. here have been no confirmed reports about the recovery of the kidnapped person. Some unconfirmed reports said police had seized weapons and liquor from the bungalow.
