KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has taken to the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter) to make it clear to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif that it was Sindh, not Punjab, which became the first province in Pakistan two years back to launch an electric bus service.
The Punjab CM was the one who first took to X on Friday and shared a post, which said: “Punjab is going to be the first province to transform its mass transit system to electric vehicles. The first fleet of 27 electric buses has arrived (in Punjab). Buses are equipped with Wifi, female section, wheel-chair ramps, CCTV and seating for special persons.”
The post contains pictures of the newly arrived electric buses.
The Sindh senior minister then took to X with his post, which, said addressing the Punjab CM, said: “Madam, CM, it is good to know that after Sindh, Punjab has become the second province in Pakistan, which will launch the electric buses. For the correction of record, the PPP’s Sindh government started EV buses in January 2023, so Punjab is going to launch this service after Sindh.”
Memon shared a second post on X containing a screenshot of two news items proving his assertion that the electric bus service was launched in Karachi in January 2023.
