Army major, soldier martyred in North Waziristan

During operation, troops effectively engaged Khwarij location and killed six Khwarij

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Army major and a soldier were martyred, while six Khwarij were killed in an engagement in North Waziristan.On the night of January 29 and 30, an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was conducted in general area Mir Ali in North Waziristan District on the reported presence of Khwarij, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said.

During the operation, the troops effectively engaged the Khwarij location and killed six Khwarij.

However, during an intense exchange of fire, Major Hamza Israr (29, resident of Rawalpindi District), and sepoy Muhammad Naeem (26, resident of Naseerabad District) were martyred.

The funeral prayers of Major Hamza Israr were offered at the Chaklala Garrison, Rawalpindi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir attended the funeral. A large number of senior serving and retired military officers, soldiers and family members also paid their respects.

Honoring the sacrifices of Pakistan’s valiant martyrs, the prime minister reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism. He emphasized that such supreme sacrifices strengthen the national resolve and reinforce the collective faith in ensuring a peaceful and secure Pakistan for future generations.

Following Namaz-e-Janaza, the mortal remains of Shaheed Major Hamza Israr were transported to his native hometown for burial.

APP reports: President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday paid tribute to the security forces for their bravery in eliminating Fitna-ul-Khwarij terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan District. The president paid homage to Major Hamza Israr and Sepoy Muhammad Naeem.
