This refers to the article, ‘Innovation driving economies’ (May 18) by Atta-ur-Rahman. The writer has pointed towards a very important subject – innovation – which can be used to skyrocket our economy. This can be done by utilising extensive knowledge in various fields. Through knowledge-intensive activities an accelerated pace of technical and scientific development can be achieved. Such activities are destined to translate into a huge amount of money for our cash-strapped country.
The writer currently serves as the chair of the UN Committee on Science and Technology. It’s amazing that no use is being made of the knowledge, expertise and innovative capabilities of a person like him. I would urge the government to create a ministry with the name of Ministry of Innovation and Research.
